Kimsar, a sacred Himalayan hamlet in Yamkeshwar tehsil, is old in the way these hills are old. The stories here say this is Yamkeshwar ground, where Shiva shielded the sage Markandeya from Yamraj, the God of Death.
According to local lore, Yamraj meditated here to worship Lord Rudra. When Shiva appeared, He barred the God of Death from this holy realm, rendering it protected forever by the chants of the Mrityunjaya Mahamantra. It is also here that the Pandavas are said to have sought solace and rested during their long exile in the hills.
Today, the landscape is dotted with ancient Siddhpeeth temples and shrines. During Shivratri and Shiva celebrations, these ridges come alive with pradakshina (circumambulation) and prolonged fasting. You can walk to a working Shiva shrine in under an hour; this ridge has been holy to someone for a very long time.

Found in the Vishnu Sahasranama, the name represents limitless consciousness. In Vedic traditions, it refers to Goddess Durga as “she who is beyond measure,” and is frequently associated with Lord Ganesha, symbolizing magnanimity and innocence.
